A14-month old boy is expected to be OK after falling into a PVC pipe that was 12 inches wide and 10 to 12 feet deep

A 14-month-old boy in Moundridge, Kansas, is unharmed after falling into a sump pump drain that was just 12 inches wide and 10-12 feet deep.

According to the Moundridge Police Department, the toddler was rescued Sunday around 2 p.m. after getting stuck underground in a PVC pipe.

Emergency responders reportedly responded quickly and recovered the child within 15-20 minutes. Police believe the boy was playing outside when he fell into the pipe.

MPD shared body-cam footage of their rescue effort several days after the incident occurred.

Officer Ronnie Wagner and Moundridge EMS Director Brian Falco were able to safely remove the boy after crafting a makeshift catch pole out of a small PVC pipe and rope.

"Officer Ronnie Wagner and myself, we kind of came up with this idea and Officer Wagner fashioned what was basically a catch pole," Falco told ABC affiliate KAKE in Wichita. "We ran some climbing rope down through a 10-foot, 12-foot piece of smaller PVC pipe. Also, Wagner did a great job tying good knots. And then I kind of fished it around the patient, and we slowly lifted him out, making sure that he was safe."

The child, while upset, was physically unharmed.

"We are relieved to report that the child, while understandably shaken, was unharmed and is once again safe," the police department said in a statement. "We extend our deepest gratitude to all the first responders for their swift and effect action."

The police department also thanked the public for their continued support of the first responders in Moundridge.
